Palmer Elementary school celebrated the groundbreaking for their new Learning Landscape playground that will be ready fall of 2009. The ground breaking ceremony happened on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 at 9:00am on the existing playground behind the school.  The day began with the presentation of the flag and saying the Pledge of Allegiance. The students then sang a new song written to celebrate their new playground. The song was sung to the tune, “Take me out to the ballgame”. Elizabeth Trujillo, Palmer’s principal, then introduced people who were instrumental in getting the playground approved and funded. The students were then lead in a cheer of “NO MORE PEA GRAVEL”,  which they thoroughly enjoyed screaming at the top of their lungs. The next activity included students wearing hard hats and shoveling a bit of the pea gravel as the entire student body did a countdown. Cheers erupted throughout and then Mike Cohen, a significant contributor to the playground,  was presented with one of the symbolic shovels. Mike looks forward to seeing the children playing in their new grass covered playground.  It was a beautiful day.  The learning landscape will enhance the Mayfair community and Palmer Elementary for years to come. Congratulations to everyone involved in this wonderful project.
