Now isn’t that easy?

Palmer Elementary School celebrated the opening day for Palmer’s new playground on October 23, 2009.

Elizabeth Trujillo, Palmer Principal, spoke with much enthusiasm about the wonderful work that was done over the course of the past year in building one of Denver’s newest learning landscape playgrounds.

Representatives from the Denver School Board, construction crew and financial donors of  this project gave congratulatory speeches to the students, teachers and parents in attendance. Palmer’s student council even performed a song and dance routine that they created to delight of the crowd.    The most exciting part of the day was when Elizabeth Trujillo and Mike Cohn cut the red ribbon to dedicate the playground to this and future palmer students.

As soon as the ribbon was cut, students were given the go ahead to run around and play on all the new equipment and field.  What a fantastic sight  to see all the kids laughing and jumping for joy about the new playground they can use every day.

I am always looking for new stories or events to report on in the Mayfair Neigbhorhood.  If you know of  garage sales, new businesses, interesting events, lost dogs, apartments for rent don’t hesitate to contact me to post a story or link to your Mayfair event/news.

Most of the board of directors were seen in the crowd enjoying wine and engaging with the local residents.

web size wine taste 11Scott Babcock, the current Mayfair Neighbors president commented on the advantages of being a non-profit this year (all the wine was donated).

Local wine wholesale reps presented compelling stories that helped the wine flow and hopefully will spur future sales of their wines.

Mayfair Liquors would love to see you stop by and pick up one of the wines represented that evening as they were a big help to the event.  If you missed out on this event we hope to see you next year.

Mayfair neighborhood celebrates Palmer’s new playground.

YouTube Preview Image

Palmer Elementary school celebrated the groundbreaking for their new Learning Landscape playground that will be ready fall of 2009. The ground breaking ceremony happened on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 at 9:00am on the existing playground behind the school.  The day began with the presentation of the flag and saying the Pledge of Allegiance. The students then sang a new song written to celebrate their new playground. The song was sung to the tune, “Take me out to the ballgame”. Elizabeth Trujillo, Palmer’s principal, then introduced people who were instrumental in getting the playground approved and funded. The students were then lead in a cheer of “NO MORE PEA GRAVEL”,  which they thoroughly enjoyed screaming at the top of their lungs. The next activity included students wearing hard hats and shoveling a bit of the pea gravel as the entire student body did a countdown. Cheers erupted throughout and then Mike Cohen, a significant contributor to the playground,  was presented with one of the symbolic shovels. Mike looks forward to seeing the children playing in their new grass covered playground.  It was a beautiful day.  The learning landscape will enhance the Mayfair community and Palmer Elementary for years to come. Congratulations to everyone involved in this wonderful project.
