How To Dispose of Household Hazardous Waste in Denver

Ever wonder what to do with the old cans of paint sitting in your house or other toxic cleaners?  I recently had this dilemma so I dialed 311, Denver’s free city information line, to find out what to do.  They told me to visit  the DenverGov.org website to request a HHW (Household Waste)  kit to package up my hazardous materials.  When I received the kit I called the HHW hotline  and was assigned a date for pick-up of my unwanted items.  Every resident of Denver has the opportunity to dispose of  HHW materials for free once a year.  If you have more than the big plastic bag can handle you can pay for another pick-up or wait a year for the free service.   I was very excited to get rid of these toxic materials in a safe way.

Denver Urban Gardens Offers Plots in Park Hill, Mayfair, Hilltop Neighborhoods [VIDEO]

Do you live in an apartment or condo and want to have a vegetable garden? Maybe there’s no room in your yard for growing. Denver Urban Gardens can set you up. It’s a community gardening program with 115 locations in the Denver, CO metro area. Here’s a map showing all the Denver Urban Garden locations. Individuals can request a garden in their neighborhood and are then assigned a plot in the garden that they can plant and tend.

The above video was filmed in the Mayfair neighborhood at the Palmer Elementary School community garden location at 9th Ave & Grape St. Palmer School is surrounded by ’50s style brick homes in Mayfair at all price points. The crown jewel of Mayfair, Mayfair Park, is just a four block walk from the school.
